I have been in the association for 1 1/2 years and a contractor for 2 years. What a weight on shoulders!! Being associated with the caliber of people in PDCA and what I learned at AST could have taken a lifetime to implement. Everyone has something to offer. My toughest assignment is to pick which ideas to implement.

What is remarkable about owning a business is the myriad challenges it presents us, as individuals, as bosses, as spouses. I cannot think of a crucible more effective at forcing growth, reflection and evolution. The Residential Forum is made up of people who are on the leading edge of our industry; I have learned and continue to learn an incredible amount from my peers in this Forum and consider it both a privilege and pleasure to help guide its future.

Painting must be in his blood! David's grandfather began painting residential homes in San Diego over 50 years ago. He passed his skill and paint knowledge to two of his sons, Mike and Pat Chism. They started their own company and then made David a part of the team in 2000. David has a strong desire for making residential paint companies work smart by using the latest in technology to help grow their businesses. David's father, Mike, was one of the founding members of the Residential Forum, so he is very excited to be following in his father's footsteps.

I joined the forum for the camaraderie with other painting contractors and I love reading the Rag newsletter. Coming from the medical field where everyone has credentials I am always challenged to find ways to incorporate training and pride in our employees. Being a non-painting owner of a painting company I respect the art and science involved in the craft and hope to be a part of elevating the image of the residential painting industry.
Hernanz Painting Company
Portland, OR
I started my company at the age of 21 with a couple thousand dollars and the typical youthful exuberance, confidence, and ignorance of a "man" my age. Unfortunately, those traits do not translate into success at a young age. It was not until I joined the PDCA Residential Forum that Hernanz Painting Co. became the company that everyone (mistakenly) thought it already was. Advanced Shop Talk has been the catalyst for our growth. The sharing of knowledge, the friendships, and the inspiration from Advanced Shop Talk has been invaluable. The best business decision I ever made was joining the Residential Forum; the worst decision was not joining sooner.
